Fifth Street Church of Christ
About Us

5th Street Church of Christ, formally known as The Calhoun Street Church of Christ of Newport Arkansas. It began in 1952 with a small group of members. The place of worship was in the home of Mrs. Juanita Criss (deceased) who then resided at 1104 Remmel Avenue. Bro E.N. Crawford (deceased) served as minister during this time.
The membership moved their meeting place to 1112 Remmel Ave. (now Craft Funeral Home). Bro. E.N. Crawford continued to serve as minister until March 1959. In April of that same year Bro. L.L. Ballard of Little Rock, AR became the minister.

On June 10, 1962 the new Calhoun Street Church of Christ building was dedicated. Bro. Ealgie Gilbert Sr. of Little Rock, AR. brought the dedication message. Bro L.L. Ballard served as minister until January 1, 1967. In February 1967 Howard Wright then a student of Harding College began serving as minister. He served until the latter part of 1967. Bro. Eugene Echols of Forrest City, AR became the minister in January 1968. He served as minister until 1969. The church was without a minister for several months. Bro.
